A girl who he knew was too good for him, deserved better than him, but it no longer mattered.
Maddox set out to win her back. When he found her a life changing secret was revealed. One he felt was a blessing not a curse.

Stained (Book 1 in the Burning Souls Series)

Synopsis:

After nearly sixteen years in hell, Maddox finally rises from the ashes. Held captive since birth he never knew normal until the day he watched as two men opened fire on the place he had merely existing since birth. He watched as the woman who visited sporadically throughout his life, a woman he later found out was his mother, as shot dead as he was dragged into the back of a black car by Brody Hines, British Rock Star. Brody’s own twisted past brought him to discover a son he never knew existed..

As a child Maddox took comfort in reading. It was his escape. His only glimpse at what life and love could be. The world he entered was something he could have never imagined. It was full of beauty and madness, yet still overflowing with hope and love.

Maddox Hines is a beautiful young man who was labeled by his school, and the world as emotionally disturbed, having Stockholm syndrome, separation anxiety and possibly being bipolar. His loving family knows better.

In part one of Stained, we watch as Maddox tries to do the right thing only to be beaten down by the true dregs of societies. Provoked, taunted, and his past exposed, Maddox lashes out the only way he knows how, physically

In part two, Maddox must flee the country to avoid being arrested, separating the family he loves. Returning to England, bringing his nightmares even closer to him. Maddox tries in vain throughout the next three years to accept the repeated loss of Harper Abrahams. His one true friend, his first kiss, his secret muse, and the girl who held his heart from the very first time he saw her. He pushes her away knowing she deserves better, that he is not good enough for her, and that he could never be.

Nothing can stop his desire for her, his need for her, and when he cannot take it anymore he brings her back into his life only to realize she is no longer his and his alone. Maddox falls into the only comfort and escape he knows now, sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Maddox becomes his own worst enemy as he pushes away his new life bringing back the past.

Genre  Fictions, Contemporary, Romance

I am a very new self published writer. I will tell you I have always had a very vivid imagination. Starting at age 3 (as it states in my Baby Book).

Sigma was my very first love (imaginary boyfriend). He lived about fifteen miles from my childhood home, (a farm). I took him chicken noodle soup every night on one of our families snowmobiles, (Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring). Apparently he was very ill and "Thank God" I was able to take care of him.

Next was my very first self publishing gig. At eight my cousins and I (and yes I was the president) wrote a newsletter and sold it to our family members.

Years later I decided to put it back into print to entertain my cousin as she was on an aircraft carrier on 9/11 (Kick ass cousin BTW) and very far away from home during a very scary time for our country, (protecting our butts).

Fast forward to 2012. I read 50 shades and thought, I can do that, (meaning writing). I have two complete series The Love Series, and Wrapped. I have two new series Burning Souls and Men of Steel. Ten books in 13 months. CrAzY and wonderful.

I love love! ( I would love to reference Pinks new song here, however I am not sure if that would cause copyright issues.)I also tend to enjoy watching people grow and change with self realization and moments of clarity that just sneak up behind you and smack you in the head. I love people and have always been able to see both sides of a story. Each person that comes into our life leaves us with something it is what we choose to do with it that helps us grow.

I live in central New York in the middle of nowhere and am surrounded by family and friend most the time. I run a small business out of my home and spend time reading and doing the typical Mommy things. Our house is full of pets and friends and noise ninety percent of the time, and I would have it no other way.
I love people, music, laughter, hugs, and books. (This information was taken from author's goodreads profile).

Cover Reveal: Bitter Fruits by Sarah Daltry

Title: Bitter Fruits (Eden’s Fall, #1)

Author: Sarah Daltry

Publisher: Escape Publishing

Synopsis:

Attending a vampire-themed masquerade party seems like a strange way to spend a night, but Nora is sick of frat parties and bars. Meeting Alec was just a bonus. Despite their immediate attraction, however, Alec is wary of involving himself with Nora, and when she pushes it, she discovers that Alec has secrets that could destroy them both. Is she willing to risk everything for a man she hardly knows? How far into darkness will he take her?

When Nora attempts to follow, however, things grow more complicated. Someone is hunting her - someone tied to a secret that goes back to the beginning of man. Soon, Nora finds herself drawn to two men, each with his own agenda. Can she save them both when one is destined to die?

Excerpt:

He sits in front of me and brings me to his chest. Our flesh is hot and sticky where it touches and I can’t stop the ache between my legs. His breathing is ragged and he tightens his grip on the back of my head as he tries to slow it. I am hurt or angry or frustrated, but I don’t know which. He runs his hands along my entire body and I push against him, needing him and not knowing how to accept his denial.

I want you, Nora. I have wanted you since I saw you. You are gorgeous. However, there are secrets that... Please understand, the steps that you want to take will reveal things. This cannot end well for either of us. I don’t want to make you suffer, but I am fated to suffer. Don’t make me bring you with me into the darkness. I can’t bear to lose you.’

I sense the pain that grips him. The darkness that he speaks of sounds frightening, but I don’t feel fear when I face him and meet his eyes. ‘I will follow you anywhere. Dark or light. Stop trying to make my choices for me.’

Our lips meet again, but it is with doubt. Neither of us knows what will happen if we are to move forward, but I want to have a chance to find out.

My body is still crying out for him but now my mind is calm. I want him, but I want him when he knows that I’m ready for whatever that means. His hands touch me and his caresses are soft. We both slow our breathing and I try to let my will match his. When he pulls away, he gathers the picnic and looks at me with longing and a hunger I do not recognize. It’s not sexual, but desperate. Almost as a dying man looks in the last moments of his life.

In three days,’ he says, ‘I will meet you again at the church where we first met. In the meantime, I want you to look something up and if you do not appear at the church, I’ll know that what you found changed everything.’

Okay,’ I say warily. I’ll do anything he asks, but his fear scares me. What kind of secrets can he possibly hold? Little right now could stop me from going to him in three days.

Find the name Charles Samuels. He was an Oxford student in the 1960s. And then we shall see how much of the darkness you are willing to face.’

I’ll look him up, but Alec, I’m going to be at the church in three days,’ I say.

For your sake, Nora, I hope that you’re not.’

'I can hear Blake moaning and his body is pushing closer to mine. The sounds escaping me are anything but cute or nice, fierce and possessive cries break away from my mouth.

“Do you trust me Sweetheart?”

With his mouth sucking on my neck, I sigh out a yes.

“Turn around” Blake turns me around so my back is to his front. I look over my shoulder at him and he’s taking off his boxers. He then leans around and flicks something on his computer. Nicky's Review

4 Stars

Characters- I loved Emily and Dexter. They were perfect opposites but similar, I know oxymoron right, but it's the truth. They were perfect together. Jared and Rachel were pretty funny and well written supporting characters.
Plot/Storyline- Story was great with great twists and I loved that both Emily and Dexter were flawed.
Steam Factor- Dexter is FREAKING HOT AS HELL!!! Who doesn't love a man with his man parts pierced?! And boy can that guy please a girl. Phew!!
Cover- Cover is very clean and beautiful.  Love it!!
Cliffhanger- YES!!!!! Next book comes out JANUARY 2014
Overall-  I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to others. Great job Nicola Haken!!

Let me just start by saying that this book took me for a ride that I thoroughly enjoyed.  I loved how Emily was the shy girl but was a very strong character when it came to Dexter.  I loved her honesty and selflessness.  She was very relatable and the fact that Nicola added great shout outs to other books, which I TOTALLY loved and read myself, made me feel like Emily and I could totally be friends.  It was fun to read the names, Dean Holder and Travis Maddox, and relate to losing myself in a book just as Emily was doing. I just thought that was such a neat touch and made me happy.

It was nice to see the relationship between Emily and Dexter grow and develop.  Watching them feel attracted to each other but constantly denying that feeling made the transition from friend to more really enjoyable.  It was believable. Each of them have baggage and find solace in each other when confronting these demons.

Dexter holds a secret inside of him that keeps him from pursuing love and happiness, but Emily is his kryptonite.  He can not resist her and watching the struggle between them was enjoyable because Emily was always there for Dex, no matter how hard he pushed her away.  They really balanced each other out.

The supporting characters, Rachel (Emily's best friend) and Jared (Dexter's only friend), were a great source of support for the leading characters and they also provided humor and sideline drama, which was enjoyable and laughable.  The only issue I had was Rachel's constant need to refer to Emily as Ho; it was really the only name she referred to her as. She never used her actual name and this made me a little stand-offish to Rachel, since Emily was anything but a ho and it's just not a term I would use for a friend, but that's the only hang up I've had in the book.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a book that includes a swoon worthy bad boy, a sweet yet strong lead girl, two funny supporting characters, and secrets that make you keep turning pages to see what happens next and what the answers will be.  It was also nice to read that the demons Emily and Dexter are fighting are legitimately serious issues that would certainly explain their behaviors.  I really don't enjoy reading books where the secret is so silly and you come away feeling like the characters were so ridiculous for making such a big deal out of the situation.  You will not find that problem in this book. The issues at hand are sad and would cause anyone to shut themselves off and consume themselves in self hatred and guilt.  But the story of Emily and Dexter surviving these issues with each other is a great story and I look forward to reading the continuation of their story this January when the second Nicola Haken's Take My Hand series book, Hold on Tight, come out.  Until then, Thank you Nikola Hanken for allowing me to take this journey. Bravo!!

Favorite Quotes:

"Seconds later I caught Jared's eye and so I cocked my head and set my face into a firm scowl which I intended to read 'if you value your balls get your ass back here NOW.'"

"Jesus, I thought I was an unsociable person.  This chick made Adolf Hitler look like Mother freakin' Teresa."

"This girl was definitely a Tootsie.  Her friend? Well she was a whole new breed I hadn't ever come across before. Maybe a Snickers- completely fucking nuts."

"But to be honest I can't seem to stop myself wanting to whip out my Kindle and get back to Dean Holder."

"You every seen one of those shows about dog rescue pounds? You know, the ones where they find an emaciated dog tied to an old gate just minutes from death and then they take it back, give it a bath and fee it it's first meal in three months? Well then you'll know what they look like when they get their mouths round that food- the way they vacuum that shit up without stopping to take a breath. Yeah, well that's how Emily eats- and it's freakin' adorable."

"Emily is like no other person I've ever met. There is no confectionary category for her- she's moade up of the most delicious parts of every piece of candy ever invented. Somehow, every second I spend with her she amazes me a little more.  I can do 'this' with her. I have to."
