Shattered Ties (The Ties Series #1) by K.A. Robinson Cover Reveal

Blurb:

With a former supermodel mother and a rock-and-roll legend father, Emma Preston has the best of everything. Nothing is as perfect as it seems though. After her parents divorce, she’s forced to live with her mother in a private Santa Monica community. Ignoring their parental roles, her mother becomes more focused on climbing the social ladder while her father is off on tour.

Growing up in a trailer park with his mother, Jesse is used to people looking down on him. When his mother begs him to submit an application for a scholarship to one of Santa Monica’s top private schools, he never expects to actually get it. When he does, he is forced to attend school with a bunch of rich kids. He ignores their stares as they judge him for having tattoos and a less than impressive car. As long as he has his surfboard and the guys at the tattoo shop, he knows he can make it through.

When Jesse shows up on the first day of school, Emma can’t help but be intrigued. Her mother would never approve of Emma talking to someone so poor, but she doesn’t care because something about Jesse draws her to him.
Jesse tries to hate Emma, but he discovers that he can’t resist her. Forced to hide their relationship from Emma’s mother and everyone else around them, things start to fall apart. When Jesse’s friend, Ally, decides to interfere, things go from bad to worse.

Nicky's Review

3.75 Stars

Characters- They were sweet, funny, and lovable.
Plot/Storyline- Story was good with a focus on rediscovering love and trust in a person.
Steam Factor- Very steamy. I LOVED Riley. He is a beautiful bed partner ;)
Cover- Sweet
Cliffhanger- No Cliffhanger, but there is a follow up book coming soon that is going to focus on Chloe and Derrick!!! I CAN NOT WAIT for that book. I kind of fell in love with Derrick <3
Overall-  Great lighthearted read with lovable characters who made me very happy by not having a lot of drama. I love stories where the characters are loyal, honest, and trustworthy.

This is a sweet story of Char finding love unexpectedly.  In the beginning, we find out that Char gets her heart broken by her jerk of a boyfriend Marc. Marc was Char's first everything and the way he betrays her understandably crushes Char's heart.  As a result of her horrible heartbreak, Char ignores her love life and turns her focus to keeping  her best friend Derrick (Char's sister Chloe's boyfriend) happy while Chloe is across the country "finding herself."  Char is frustrated with Chloe for making Derrick wait and pine for her while she moves across the country for her career (this seems to be the theme for Chloe and Derrick. She goes after her dreams while he sits around waiting for her to come back to him. He is so beautiful and loyal to a fault).  Derrick is left to wait for Chloe in the house he and Chloe bought together.  In order to make up for the lack of rent from Chloe's side, he puts out an ad for a roommate in Craigslist and gets a roommate that will change Char's love life for the best.

The relationship between Derrick and Char is much like that of a brother and sister.  They are always there for each other and support each other during rough times. If you can't tell, I loved Char and Derrick's relationship.  If it wasn't for Riley and Chloe, I would have been on the "Char and Derrick need to be together" boat, but the relationships were so well written that I came away ok and happy that Char and Derrick's relationship was just platonic.

In comes Riley, the sexy beast that is Derrick's new roommate.  Char and Riley (not knowing who each other are in relation to Derrick) have a few run-in meetings with each other that would be considered disastrous, but these failed interactions become insignificant when they officially meet at Derrick's house and their sexual draw to each other consumes them and lets them let bygones be bygones and start a new slate.

This is where my hang up occurs and not everyone feels the same, but I am just not a fan of insta-love in novels.  I LOVE seeing a relationship grow with time.  I love the beauty that comes from learning about each other, transitioning from stranger, to friend, to lusting urges, to lover. I just like feeling this transition with the characters.  But despite this issue, the story is really good. I still enjoyed the story and was able to ignore the insta-love aspect because the characters were so enjoyable and you just want to see Riley and Char happy no matter how fast it happens. They deserve each other.

Lets get on with the characters, because I loved them!! I loved Riley!!! He is super sweet, super sexy, and a damn good lover.  He KNOWS how to satisfy a woman. He is AMAZEBALLS!!!

I LOVED Derrick and how committed and loyal he is to Chloe despite her selfish ways. I also love how he loves and takes care of Char in a totally platonic way.

Char was a great character. She is such a smartass and knows what she wants and doesn't lie or create drama. She's beautiful but doesn't know it. She's just a breath of fresh air and is good at being just one of the guys.

Chloe is a little frustrating with how selfish she is within her relationship with Derrick.  She loves Derrick but she wants to live life before settling down completely with him.  But we have to give Chloe some credit.  She does ask about Derrick a lot, she expresses that she loves him, and she's a great sister.

This was a very sweet book with great characters.  The story provided love, lust, humor, and minimal drama.  I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a pick-me-up and a great cast of characters that you almost believe are real. Great job T.H. Snyder.  I am SO looking forward to Derrick and Chloe's story.  Did I mention I think I fell in love with him. Sweetest. Guy. EVER!!!!

Favorite Quotes:

"Why in the hell does this guy have a rooster for a ring tone and why is it going off at, huh what time is it?"~ Riley
"Derrick, you need to change the ring tone you have set for when I call you. The whole rooster, cock block thing is somewhat old. I was 15 years old when you and Chloe were in the family room. How was I to know you two were kissing with the lights out?"~Char

"I'm a loon? You saw me heading for the paper and dove right in front of me like the paper was the last Twinkie on the planet."

"So Boston is home now huh?"
"For now yes and to be honest anywhere that Char is, that is where I want to call home."

"Life is perfect with Char in my arms. Anything is possible when we are together.  The feel of her skin against mine gives me the will to do anything. Her touch makes me warm and gives me the sense that she is all I'll ever need.  Char makes me want to be the man she deserves."

"This man in front of me is the one who allows me to be me. He loves me for the person I am, not the woman he wants me to be."

3 Stars

Characters- The characters are funny, smart-asses and overall lovable.
Plot/Storyline- I thought the plot flowed nicely and was fun and simple.
Steam Factor- Pretty Steamy
Cover- Cute and really shows the love between Riley and Char
Cliffhanger- Nope =) Can't wait to read book 2 about Derrick and Chloe!
Overall- Sweet and Cute love story with a HEA =)

Touch Me is a dual POV between Char and Riley's characters. It was very well written and the characters had pretty good development to make them relatable.

Char Taylor is an emotionally scared, broken woman. She is funny, beautiful and talented and has an amazing family. Unfortunately, her heart was broken by her douche bag ex when he cheated on her with her best friend. Char has an awesome sense of humor and doesn't take crap from anyone. I like that about her. It makes her real, loyal and relatable. After she had her heart broken she decided to focus on herself and career, but a chance encounter changes all of that.

Riley unfortunately has had a pretty bad year too. I don't want to give too much away but he has ALOT of guilt inside for the things that have happened and he feels like moving to Boston was his best option. He wants to start fresh. Riley is a great character. He also is funny, witty and sexy! He has all the bad boy charm that we love in guys.

Derrick is Char's best friend and her sisters boyfriend. Riley happens to be Derricks new roommate . Fighting, flirting and friendship all occurs in a few days and sparks fly between Riley and Char. The reason I mostly gave this book 3 stars is because I just don't like insta-love. I unfortunately felt like that happened in this book. By 21% they think they are in love. That is just not real for me. I didn't get to feel them fall in love over the course of the story. But, T.H. Snyder writes a good story so by the end it's believable.

This story was similar to others I have read but definitely kept me going until the end. I felt the ending was a little rushed and just wanted more! I'm sure we will get that in the second book =) It was a good love story and is a great, easy read! I honestly can't wait to hear about Derrick and Chloe! So excited to read book 2!

Quotes we LOVE:

“There he is, a woman's living, breathing fantasy, doing his slow, cocky turn, spiky black hair, darkly tanned chest, dimpled smile-killer smile-all in the package of Remington Tate. He's perfection itself, and a new surge of hormones sweeps through me as I do what the rest of the crowd does and take in his visual, so blatantly on display in those low riding boxing shorts and so strikingly sexy, he becomes the center of my attention. The center. Of my. World.”

“Why’d you want to have sex with me? To have a fucking adventure? What was I supposed to be? Your one-night-fucking stand? I’m every woman’s adventure, damn you, and I don’t want to be yours. I want to be your fucking REAL. You get that? If I fuck you, I want you to belong to me. To be mine. I want you to give yourself to me—not Riptide!”

“I love him, Melanie. I love him He's not just a star, he's the whole fucking sky to me. He's the sun and every planet in this galaxy.”

“You’ll leave me the second it gets too steep, and you’ll leave me with nothing – when I want you like I’ve never wanted anything in life. You’re all I think about, dream about. I get high and low and it’s not about you now, it’s not even about me anymore. I can’t sleep, can’t think, can’t concentrate worth shit anymore and it’s all because I want to be the fucking ‘one’ for you.”

“Have you ever been anyone's?"
"No. And you?"
"I've never wanted to."
"Neither have I. Until I saw this lovely girl in Seattle, with big gold eyes, and pink, full lips... and I wondered if she could understand me...”

“That's why I didn't want to touch you I knew I'd go crazy if I touched you, and now, it tears me open to ask you to be with me when I know I'm just going to do something to hurt you again!
"Yes! Yes you probably are, you idiot! And it's going to be a damn skydive for me, and I'm going to hang on tight and just jump with you because that's what you do to me.”

That night irrevocably changed the outgoing, fun-loving college freshman into an introverted, workaholic with no social life. Sahara isolates herself from everyone and everything that reminds her of home in an effort to forget what happened. Using art as a substitute for love, Sahara throws herself into music and art as a way to feel something other than the guilt that haunts her. Blindsided by a legal loophole, Sahara is suddenly forced to confront the past she’s been running from. Juggling the guilty feelings of her past and the unexpected feelings of her present, Sahara’s future becomes complicated as she heads down a path of forgiveness, love, and heartbreak…and not in that particular order.

Nicky's Review

4 Stars

Characters- Loved the characters. They were genuine and real. Very relatable in this situation.
Plot/Storyline- Plot was well written with a great flow and perfect placement of twists and turns.
Steam Factor- Very steamy!! Yummy Ty! YUMMY!
Cover- The art gallery makes sense since art is Sahara's place of solace in this story.
Cliffhanger- YES!!!!!!!!!
Overall-  Really enjoyed this book and the way it had you guessing what exactly happened and then had you stunned when another fact came into light.

This is the story of Sahara, a girl who has shut herself away from any type of pleasure in her life as a penance for an accident that occurred 10 years ago with her best friend, Emily, and Emily's brother, Emanuel.  Sahara distances herself from any friends or family she had before the accident. She has empty sexual relationships (not many, she has long term detached relationships) to satisfy her physical needs but nothing long term that may bring her happiness or love; she makes sure of this.

It's very sad to see Sahara punish herself for an accident that was really an accident.  She buries herself in her work as a Human Resources manager and is fantastic at is since she is so introverted and standoffish.  She is perfect for the job and states this fact by saying, "Not being very social is what helps us to excel at our job. [...] For instance, in order to be the neutral party one has to be entirely neutral. To handle interoffice drama, one must be outside of the fray to negate any allegations of favoritism or fraternization. So standoffish works!"

Things are going neutrally perfect in Sahara's numb life...until Tyree Barker!!!  The HOT SCHMEXY guy that she keeps bumping into. He makes her body hummm and want to do things that she hasn't dared allowed herself to indulge in in a long time.  In order to know what happens, you will have to read the book, but let me just tell you that Tyree is the perfect swoon worthy character and is the kryptonite to Sahara's cold barrier.  Things heat up, a love triangle surfaces, and you are left wondering who Sahara is going to choose and what the hell just happened?!  Friends resurface and feelings are in the balance.  I know I will be picking up Danielle Allen's follow up novel as soon as it comes out. I NEED answers!!! I would definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for romance, hot sex scenes, game changing twists, and love triangle challenges.  I still don't know who's team I'm on in the love triangle. Both guys are amazing and I am a bit jealous of Sahara for having such sweet guys pining for her. Enjoy!!

Favorite Quotes:

"It's been a long time since my heart has felt as full as you've made mine feel the last couple of weeks. I can honestly tell you that this has been the best two weeks of my life.  You are perfect.  You are absolutely perfect. But I know I don't deserve you.  I'll ruin you like I ruined the lives of everyone else I've ever loved."

"'Smells delicious baby, [...].'
'Thank you! I wanted to be done before you woke up, but I had an incident.' I looked in the direction he was pointing: sauce was all over his T-shirt/
'Well, I am enjoying the show...' I flirted as he turned to face me.
'Good because I plan on giving you a more comprehensive show in the near future,' he winked.
'Looking forward to it,' I said as I kissed the center of his chest."

"'Sahara, tell me what you want for your birthday,' Ty asked quietly through gritted teeth.
'I want you,' I panted."

"'I know and I don't want to make your life difficult.  I just had to tell you something and I couldn't do it over the phone. So here I am now, doing what I should've done along time ago.' Taking a deep breath, he continued, 'Right now, you're his and I'll respect that [...]. So now I'm standing in front of you as a single man telling you that I'm in love with you [...]. And if you'll have me, I'll love you for the rest.'" -quote edited to prevent spoilers ;)

Characters- The characters are very realistic and easy to connect with. Perfect fit for this story.
Plot/Storyline- The plot flowed beautifully together and had just the right amount of intrigue and suspense in the story.

Steam Factor- STEAMY!! =)
Cover- I like the cover, but it doesn't portray the emotions you feel from the story.
Cliffhanger- YES! MAJORLY!! Agh! Can't wait to read book 2!
Overall-  Very intriguing, heartfelt, sexy plot with yummy characters and an overall theme of forgiveness.

This book really touches on a strong theme throughout the book about
forgiveness. Foregiveness in one's self and foregiveness in others. It's amazing how something can happen and completely alter the course of your life and everyone else's around you. That's exactly what happens in this beautiful novel by Danielle Allen.

We have Sahara, the main character, who has completely retreated into herself for the past 10 years because of feeling guilty over something that happened 10 years earlier. She is very different than her former self and has moved away from her past and everyone in it. You really connect with Sahara and feel all her deep, sad emotions. It makes you feel sad as the reader and you want to know what happened. Shortly into the story, Sahara meets Tyree Barker.....YUMMY! He is delicious in every way. Not only is he extremely attractive he is smooth, sophisticated and lives in her apartment complex.

As the story continues, Sahara beings to feel things again about herself and about love. She's really happy and trying to move on from her past. Danielle Allen slowly builds the relationship between Ty and Sahara. Sahara opens up to Ty about her past and her guilt. You fall in love with them and the happiness they bring each other.

Sahara goes back to her hometown for the trial of the man who caused the accident 10 years ago. She finally reconnects with her past, including her first love Emanuel. This now creates one heck of a love triangle because Emanuel is hot too!! You can instantly feel the connection between them as soon as they see each other again. The trial becomes a very emotional yet powerful scene, important details emerge and true colors are brought to the surface.

Who gets the girl? You must read to see! I will warn you...MAJOR CLIFFHANGER!! But book 2 is set to release in December thankfully =)

Nicky's Review

3 Stars

Characters- Complex and humanly flawed (aka real)
Plot/Storyline- Story line was good. Had a lot of twists that you do not expect.
Steam Factor- Pretty steamy, but there is a lot of focus on coping with insecurities and healing in this area
Cover- Very confusing when it comes to the story. The cover is very sweet and calm, whereas the story is very serious and consists of quite a few dark experiences between the main characters.
Cliffhanger- No cliffhanger.
Overall-  The story was good and kept me interested.  The different challenges Tessa and Shane face within their relationship were well executed and very believable. Well done.
To start, I did enjoy this story and the constant changes throughout the book. It definitely kept me turning pages in order to see what was going to happen. I also enjoyed the different POVs that allowed you to get the whole story. That was a nice touch. I will say, though, that when I went into the book after reading the synopsis (and seeing the beautifully serene cover) I was prepared to read a light love story about two young arch enemies who find love as they grow up with each other.  This scenario did happen, but with some very extreme twists; one that was pretty severe and very dark and will sort of haunt me for a while to come. I am just going to warn you that this book contains physical and sexual violence so be prepared.  It's not too graphic but I do know that there are readers out there that don't want to read anything containing this topic, so here is your warning.  Continuing on...

In the beginning, Tessa starts Kindergarten with Shane and she tells him that they were going to be married when they got older.  This news of course freaked the 5 year old Shane out and that's where the strain between them began.  It wasn't solely because of that scenario, it is just what started it.  Shane does ask Tessa in the future why she said that and she admits that she had a dream that they were going to get married and that she has dreams like that a lot but she stopped telling people her dreams after Shane's reaction when they were kids.  I was intrigued.  I thought that Tessa was going to have some sort of special gift, but that was that with that topic.  I felt a bit at a loss, like that bit of information was leading somewhere and then that part of the story was just dropped.  Anyway, that's my little hang-up that doesn't affect the story.

As the story continues, Tessa and Shane call a truce in High school (I haven't ruined anything, I promise, this happens not too far into the story and you read in the synopsis that Shane becomes her rock in life).  Tessa and Shane become friends and become very close after that.  The theme that is a constant in this story is of Tessa constantly pushing Shane away every time a huge change occurs, for example college.  I will not tell you other changes but there are more that occur throughout their story, which spans from Kindergarten into their 30's or so.

The story of Shane and Tessa's struggle with having love, holding love, and maintaining love throughout this book was very well executed.  The reasons for the strain in their relationships over the years were realistic and the torment that they experienced together was very tangible.  I did appreciate the author's attention to detail in regards to Tessa's strong commitment to Shane. You will have to read this book to really know what I'm talking about.  I will say that the plot was well planned out and story did flow very well.  There weren't questions by the time the book ended for me.  Ann Vaughn can definitely weave together a story that will keep you interested and let you come away feeling like you got the entire story (despite my dream hang-up). I will definitely be looking forward to reading another Ann Vaughn book.

"'Yeah... I could really, really use a hug right about now. I just... yeah, I just need to feel your arms around me. I know I've no right to ask and...'  He stepped to her and folded her into his embrace. 'Shut up, Tess,' he murmured against her ear."

"A dimple appeared in his cheek. 'Crownover is very protective of me.'
'Obviously. Do you know his first name?'
He laughed. 'Yeah, actually, I do'
She smiled. 'So do I...now.'
He looked stunned. 'What? How do you know?'
'He told me.'
'He did not,' he countered.
She nodded. 'Really, he did. He came to see me in the hospital.  He didn't know I was awake and he leaned down and said, 'if it will help you get better any faster, my first name is Bartholomew.' It took everything I had not to open my eyes and gape at him.'
Shane busted out laughing. She narrowed her eyes at him.
'What?'
'His name is Harry.'
'What?!'"

3.5 Stars

Characters- I really liked the main characters Tessa and Shane. Pretty well developed and realistic.
Plot/Storyline-The storyline was a little choppy for me. The overall plot was very interesting.
Steam Factor- Mild, but sweet ;)
Cover- I agree with Nicky....The cover makes you believe this is a light hearted love story and it's much more than that. The cover is beautiful though.
Cliffhanger- None =)
Overall- This was a good read about 2 childhood friends going through life and love together. It literally follows them from kids to adults and all the struggles they face in between.
To start...I have to say that I was not expecting this book to turn out the way it did. Based on the blurb and the cover I was thinking of a cute, friends to lovers story. This actually turned out to be more of a suspense romance and not that that's a bad thing at all, it was just unexpected.

The first few chapters are cute but actually are a little confusing. You are learning about Tessa and Shane and how they meet, which they are 5 by the way and in Kindergarten (so cute!) They don't get along for many years, constantly picking on each other. Fast forward to high school, they are in the same class and both finally apologize and decide to move on and become friends. This friendship as we understand from the blurb, turns into much more than that. This is when it gets a little weird for me. I felt like the plot got a little jumpy and the pace picked up. The time span of events jumped around and I feel like I lost some connection to Tessa and Shane. After about 35% into the story, it's like a brand new story begins and Tessa and Shane are adults. I actually liked from this point of the story on the best. They both became adults and the dialogue was much better between the two.

Ann Vaughn really portrays true love between these two characters. The obstacles they must face to be together are heartbreaking! Just when you think things are going to be perfect, you are hit with yet another mountain they must climb. BUT, they are strong and true love outshines anything and everything.

I will warn you though part of the story is dark and intense. I could feel all the emotions that went through Tessa and even Shane during this time. They both are emotionally scarred by the major turn of events in this story. I was very disappointed in Tessa's decision though afterward, even though I know what she goes through is horrific and traumatic. I won't say what happens but I felt like with her being such a strong willed character in this story that she would not of became such a weak person at that point.

Overall, a good read and a very realistic story about 2 people falling in love and facing the world together. Tessa and Shane were meant to be together in every way and Tessa really shows her commitment to Shane over and over again. Ann Vaughn, thank you for a realistic and sweet portrayal of true love at it's finest. I will definitely read more from this wonderful author.

Now he looked at her like she'd suddenly sprouted two heads.
"You're nuts!" he exclaimed. She shook her head. "No, I'm not. I'm Tessa. Tessa Kelly."

He kissed each cheek, kissing her tears away. "No more tears, Tess. Promise me. Not one more tear. I can't handle your tears." A little half laugh escaped her. "I'll do my best, but no guarantees. I'm a girl after all."
